Learning to read and comprehend well is one of the most important things that your child needs to learn, both for school and life beyond the classroom.

Our literacy assessment, which is specially designed by our in-house team of early childhood literacy experts, will provide a comprehensive and accurate measure of your child’s reading ability.

Knowing your child’s current competencies in this basic language skill will provide an indication on the areas that both you and your child’s trainer can continue to support your child in.

Prior to enrolling in our reading programme, your child’s literacy skills will be assessed thoroughly in the following areas:

Concepts about books, print, letters and words

Understanding and reading frequently occurring words

After the assessment, we will walk you through your child’s results and share tips on how you can help him/her to improve. Your child will then be placed in our reading programme at a level best suited to his/her reading abilities, based on the results of the literacy assessment.

Programme Levels

Beginner

Students in this level are still building fundamental reading abilities.

They will learn to:

  • Acquire basic reading skills such as letter recognition and sounds of the alphabet
  • Understand the basic concepts of print (i.e. capital letters and punctuation)
  • Learn to write their own names and common 3- and 4-letter words
Intermediate

Students in this level have basic reading skills and are beginning to express themselves with bigger words and fuller sentences.

They will learn to:

  • Identify diagraphs and use correct grammar and punctuation when writing
  • Tell stories in his/her own words
  • Respond to questions and participate in discussions confidently
Advanced

Students in this level are able to read fairly well without guidance, and are starting to draw links with what they read and real life.

They will learn to:

  • Read comprehension passages confidently
  • Use correct punctuation marks, grammar structure and phrases
  • Communicate ideas, feelings and information through simple short stories

Programme Levels
